Great for potlucks!
The recipe I used is adapted from NYT Cooking.
Ingredients:
Per 6-8 servings:
- 1 lb ziti (or other pasta of choice)
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 28-ounce can marinara sauce
- 1 28-ounce can tomato sauce
- 16 oz ricotta
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 lb fresh mozzarella, cut into ½-inch pieces
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- handful of basil leaves, chopped, as garnish
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
-
Cook pasta ~2 minutes less than directions on package. Drain and set aside.
-
In a large bowl, combine tomato paste, marinara, and tomato sauce.
-
In another bowl, combine ricotta and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add 2 cups of tomato sauce blend to pasta and mix to incorporate.
-
Grease a 9x13 baking dish with oil.
-
Spoon some tomato sauce blend to the base of the baking dish. Add 1/3 of the pasta on top.
- Add 1/3 of the remaining tomato sauce blend on top, followed by 1/2 of the ricotta/cream blend.
-
Add 1/3 of the mozzarella on top.
-
Repeat the layering process with the pasta, tomato sauce blend, ricotta/cream blend, and mozzarella.
-
For the last layer, add the rest of the pasta, tomato sauce blend, and mozzarella.
- Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes.
- Garnish with basil, let it cool slightly, and enjoy!
